The green dot.

Over the last year we have been actively working on initiatives that reduce the impact of our product on the environment. From 2024 onwards we will consolidate our efforts in our sustainability program the Green Dot.

Below you can see our update.

Straight

from the tap.

Replacing bottled drinks by innovative dispenser systems is probably our most ambitious plan yet to combat the use of plastics in shops. And we certainly are not there yet in terms of finding the perfect solution. Still, we have designed and launched controllable pilots in a few shops to see what the impact is on sales, but more importantly shopper behaviour. Stay tuned for more on this as we aim to share results of these important pilots.

Too good

to waste.

We always try to achieve a perfect balance between food items stocked and sold. But unfortunately, we still end up with a small batch of items that are too close to their ‘sell by’ date. Of course we take these back to our Hubs for processing, but we really don’t like throwing food away. Good news is that we have found a wunderful solution to this. In partnership with local foodbanks, we have set up a pick-up system for their volunteers to collect all our ‘food waste’. It is great to know that these items will still be able to be enjoyed by people who need it most.

Greener

logistics.

On average, our shop keeper teams are on the road for 10 hours in the day. That’s a lot of mileage, which influences our Co2 impact. As a first step towards a zero-impact shop operational infrastructure, we would like to drive our miles as clean as possible. Early calculations for a test with a more sustainable fuel option suggest that this will result in a 42% reduction in CO2 emissions. Once we have validated this, we will look to roll this approach out.

Clean water

for all.

This one is particularly important for us to share with you. There are still 771,000,000 people in this world today that do not have access to clean drinking water. The Made Blue Foundation is a charity, working on behalf of more than 600 companies in Europe to provide access to clean drinking water and hygiene in developing countries. We’re proud to announce that we are now a certified Made Blue partner. By simply giving back the amount of water needed for producing the drinks we sell, we hope to make a difference. If you want to know more about Made Blue, or become a donating partner too, let your Wundermart account manager know.
